Thinking Universality, Living Diversity - Human Standards In A Global World

The true civilization of a culture can be recognized by its treatment of people of age and the sick.

38th Vice President of the United States.

The Hubert Humphrey Building dedication speech, November 1st, 1977. Washington, D.C.

The attitude as a doctor

A constructive doctor-patient contact therefore always requires a dignified, empathic dialog. In order to be able to guarantee this in the long term, however, it is essential to recognize a creative, overriding force that is the source of all life. This creative force has endowed every human being with dignity by nature.

Doctor – patient contact

Recognizing this fact implies that there can be no such thing as unworthy life and that, consequently, every life that is created and comes into being is to be regarded as dignified. It is therefore the duty of physicians worldwide to preserve this life with all his individually acquired medical capabilities and to protect this life from unnecessary suffering.

Protecting life

This requires also an awareness that sees the human being as a unit in the inseparable connection between body, mind and soul. This awareness includes the knowledge that we can only speak of health in this world if we succeed in achieving a harmonious balance between all three components.

Unity of the human being

This requires also an awareness that sees the human being as a unit in the inseparable connection between body, mind and soul. This awareness includes the knowledge that we can only speak of health in this world if we succeed in achieving a harmonious balance between all three components.

Universal standards

The human being is distributed all over our planet and the need for comprehensive health is universal. Therefore the aim should be to jointly develop globally valid medical standards, which are to be objectified through a serious, comprehensive, transnational medical exchange. This will enable diagnostics and treatment to be valid for all across borders and, in the best case, be available to everyone.

Economic independence

This can only mean that medical diagnosis and treatment must never be subjected to economic interests. Thus, there must be no time pressure due to these economic orientation, which affects the meeting between doctor and patient for financial reasons. Without this freedom of time, the possibility of a relationship of trust developing between doctor and patient is always at risk.

Criteria & Certification

The WCS supports these goals through the WCHC certificate. The WCS wishes that all people and institutions who are responsible for health and healthcare systems become aware of these necessities and provide sufficient resources to make this goal a reality.
The WCHC certificate is linked to the fulfillment of standards such as those listed above. Healthcare facilities can apply for such a certificate by demonstrating that they meet the explicit criteria of WCHC. The certificate must be renewed every five years.
The criteria for awarding and using the WCHC logo can be developed in the context of a WCSYN syntegrative event with high-profile representatives and stakeholders.
